The String Contingent
In 2017, they released their fifth album, Iterations, recorded in the beautiful acoustic of the Windsong Pavilion at Four Winds in Bermagui, NSW. Holly, Chris and Graham embarked on a two-part residency at Four Winds to explore different approaches to music-making and to ‘pull back the curtains’ on their creative process. The resultant album features music they developed at and between the two sessions, and the live free improvisation, they collectively and spontaneously created in concert.
As composers, Chris, Graham and Holly have often taken inspiration from landscapes they have travelled through, from the famous Great Ocean Road (VIC), the dense forests of New Zealand, the wild coastline of Isle of Lewis (Scotland) to the majestic peaks of the Colorado mountains (USA), and the more recently travelled Savannah Way. They enjoy taking ‘the road less travelled’, enabling them to shape new music and collaborations that lend themselves to a new album or multimedia project
Please come and share with us their performance of camaraderie and cheeky banter, their passionate musicianship and instrumental skill, all combined to provide a joyful combination of precision, refinement and beauty, balanced with visceral energy and drive.
This performance, including works from Iterations and their recent trip across The Savannah Way will be held in the main gallery of Wagga Wagga Art Gallery on Sunday 14 October at 3pm.
