Learn from Gordi, Jim Moginie, Nina Las Vegas, Benny Walker, Catherine Britt, Beatrice Lewis, Buddy Knox and more
The Regional Sessions, a first-of-its-kind event series dedicated to the art, craft and business of songwriting, is set to take place in June at five musical hubs around New South Wales - Tamworth, Byron Bay, Wagga Wagga, Dubbo and Wollongong. Early bird discounted tickets are on sale now to the sessions, which are presented by music rights management organisation APRA AMCOS with support from Create NSW and MusicNSW.
Each full-day event includes a keynote 'In Conversation', songwriter panel, workshop sessions and networking opportunities for emerging and mid-career songwriters and music creators. The program will culminate with a curated performance and post-event networking.
Limited early bird discounted tickets are available now at The Regional Sessions website.
Songwriters from all genres are encouraged to attend and will have the chance to hear and learn from standout Australian talent including acclaimed singer and songwriter Gordi, Midnight Oil founding member Jim Moginie, electronic music champion Nina Las Vegas, soulful solo artist and songwriter Benny Walker, country star Catherine Britt and many more.
The Regional Sessions have been created as a high-impact day to foster creativity, connections and industry knowledge at a crucial time for anyone pursuing music. As the music industry continues to face adversity due to the impacts of COVID-19 and limited performance opportunities and restricted travel, the skills that go into writing the songs that connect and endure are more important and vital than ever.
"I am looking forward to sharing songwriting inspiration as well as plenty of practical and helpful advice to my fellow songwriters at The Regional Sessions in Dubbo. As someone who grew up in a regional area, I encourage anyone making music to come along and get the most out of a day dedicated to what we all love to do - write songs," said Gordi, who recorded her lauded second album Our Two Skins at her family's sheep farm in Canowindra, NSW.
"Careers in music all start with a song and build on from there. The Regional Sessions aims to help songwriters across New South Wales hone their craft, develop their skills and provide opportunities to meet like-minded creatives. A one day experience could lead to connections for a lifetime, and APRA AMCOS is really excited to deliver this in-person series alongside Create NSW and MusicNSW," said Jana Gibson, Head of Member Services, APRA AMCOS.
