Indian Motorcycle are right behind Black Dog Ride! For the second consecutive year, Indian Motorcycle generously donated an Indian Scout Bobber valued at $19,995 as an online registration incentive for Black Dog Ride’s iconic annual 1 Dayer suicide prevention ride.

The lucky winner was 21 year old university student Bronte Howell of Caringbah NSW, who when told of her win during Black Dog Ride’s 1 Dayer last month, was almost struck speechless. “When I was approached I initially thought I was in trouble! But I’m so stoked to win. Thanks Indian!”

Bronte picked up the Indian Scout Bobber in Sydney last weekend. Bronte said when she heard about  Black Dog Ride’s 1 Dayer, she signed up immediately. “When I saw that Facebook post for Black Dog Ride, there was no way I wasn't going to do it. After all, we're all in this together."

Since 2010, Black Dog Ride's 1 Dayer has brought together Black Dog Riders for an enjoyable and meaningful day, uniting like-minded people for a vital mission: raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention.

8 Australians take their lives every single day, which is one life lost to depression every three hours, with an estimated 180 people attempting suicide each day.

Black Dog Ride’s CEO David Peach says, “We believe that fostering awareness of depression in communities is the best catalyst for preventing the tragedy of suicide. We’re grateful to Indian Motorcycle for supporting our work in raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention.”

Mr Peach also highlights that over 80% of Black Dog Ride’s participants have lived experience battling the black dog or caring for someone who does, “People with lived experience leading their community on a Black Dog Ride and sharing their stories is empowering and shines a beacon of hope which highlights that mental illness can be managed successfully.”

Black Dog Ride is now looking ahead to their next project: Black Dog Ride to the Top End 2018 with hundreds of participants embarking on a journey of thousands of kilometres to Darwin to foster awareness of suicide prevention nationwide.
